Zillah Bowes

I am a Welsh/English multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker working across film, photography, poetry, and installation, often combining these forms. My practice explores a spiritual enquiry into climate change and biodiversity, focusing on the relationship between individuals and the natural environment, and how landscape can be reframed within the climate crisis. With a background in documentary filmmaking, I also co-create work with communities.

My work has used moonlight to explore transitions between plant and human life in upland hill farming areas, and broader plant–human connection. After several years working in lens-based media and poetry, my practice has expanded into installation, sound, found objects, and creative scores.

I was awarded the Future Wales Fellowship 2023–2025 to research connection to nature, during which I developed creative scores exploring individual exchange with the natural world. This process led to a series of films engaging with traumatic memory and the effect of nature.
