As a scuba diver for over forty years I have watched the gradual but ongoing destruction of precious reefs and underwater environments all over the world, by climate change, pollution, ghost nets to name a few and as an underwater photographer am committed to raise awareness through images to encourage change .
I have been privileged to experience the huge biodiversity, colour and life that exists in these precious marine environments, that sustain our ocean and ultimately life on earth. I feel passionately that to show images of the beauty that still exists, especially in marine protected zones , and places where efforts are made to rebuild or sustain the reefs and ocean environments, can be as powerful and impact change as much those showing destruction and decay.
Coral Jewel, 2024, Komodo National Park
The brightly coloured polyps of this large soft coral provide a superb camouflage for the tiny goby that lives amongst its fronds. Demonstrating a healthy reef and biodiversity starting with the smallest goby the healthy sea fan gives us hope and determination to protect our oceans from the endless attack from climate change.
